Thanks for writing this! As a communications professional and writer I am grappling with generative AI too. On one side, I think it's going to help us so much by doing some of the grunt work - especially for things we don't need to put out heart and souls into writing (eg a press release on the new pumpkin spice latte), and save our energy for creative work and real writing.
As you have said, AI generated content is pretty awful, but sometimes it does enough to save us an hour or son on a mundane draft we need to write for something, and our time can be used to quickly fact check and edit the work.
I feel like, as content writers for clients, if we don't use AI to at least work faster, we will not be able to compete with turn around times of those who do - in which case we have no choice but to use them, or we will not be getting much work moving forward.
