Discovering the Be-Do-Have mindset to having the life you want
Sometimes I feel like turning 40 is hitting me now, two years later when I am almost 42.
I used to be so carefree. Not a worry in the world.
Now, with two small kids, bills to pay, a full-time job, and this damn Virus that continues to topple our world, I’m not sure I will ever be carefree again.
And then there are the more existential questions that I can no longer escape:
Who am I?
Who do I want to be?
What do I stand for? What are my values?
What do I want from the rest of my life?
How can I ensure that I stay healthy in both mind and body, so I that I can continue to live my best life for years to come?
How can I be the best partner of my husband?
How can I be the best parent to my growing children?
In my search for the way forward, I have repeatedly come across the “Be, Do, Have” mindset model.
Who do I need to “BE”, and what do I need to “DO”, to “HAVE” whatever it is that I want to have.
It seems this mindset was introduced by Steven Covey in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, or author and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar (I’m not sure?) and I’m surprised I haven’t paid attention to it before now.

So far, I have been operating on the conventional reverse of this model, that is: Have, Do, Be. What do I need to “have” to be able to “do”, in order to “be”. In other words, I need to have enough money to do whatever I want, to be who I want to be. Tell me I am not the only one?
It’s time to shift that thinking a bit.
I am notorious for keeping things in my head, only to forget them or to lose focus as the things get replaced by other things. So, I created a worksheet for myself to start writing down my own Be Do Have goals and filing them to refer to.

In summary, quoting the late Zig Ziglar, “You have to BE before you can DO, and DO before you can HAVE.” Having is therefore the result of being and doing.
It’s SO simple there isn’t really much else do it; except the ability to adopt that mindset and writing it down is a good place to start. I must give it shot. Let the manifesting begin!
